Case Study 1:
The issue
A top 20 Insurer explained that it was happy with its current arrangement whereby its panel of external Legal Costs Consultants dealt with claims for legal costs. However, there was a concern that managing the legal costs aspect of the claim was a core claims skill, which was being lost by its employees.
Our solution
Not only did we design a uniform reporting platform to facilitate enhanced performance management of the panel of external Legal Costs Consultants, we also delivered regular training and developed a whitelabelled Legal Costs intranet which is now used by the client’s employees as a comprehensive legal costs knowledge portal.
Case Study 2
The issue
A top 20 Insurer expressed its continuing commitment to deal with all legal costs matters in-house. However, there was a concern that there was a lack of consistency and control in terms of how adverse legal costs claims were settled – especially in larger, more expensive claims. Legal costs claims were dealt with over a number of sites, by hundreds of employees, with differing skill and expertise levels.
Our solution
We developed a bespoke performance management platform to allow key legal costs management performance indicators to be collated and easily analysed. Upon identifying the “star legal costs performers,” it was easy to ensure the larger and more complex cases were channelled through to the appropriate employees. As a short term measure, pending the introduction of the management platform, higher value adverse costs cases were sent to Legal Costs Associates to allow expert Legal Costs Experts to minimise legal costs expenditure with immediate effect. We continue to deliver not only a training programme, but also a whitelabelled Legal Costs intranet as a legal costs communication tool and to assist our client’s employees maintain the best possible in-house legal costs reductions.
